The Colón Urban Renewal project was awarded the highest recognition in the eighth edition of Global Best Projects 2020 granted by Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine as “Best project globally” in the Renovation/Restoration category. This project contemplated the construction of a large apartment complex, recreation areas, public institutions and commercial areas, and its execution entailed a greater challenge to humanize and transform the lives of more than 25,000 people and thus reduce the levels of poverty and inequality. It also generated more than 3,500 direct jobs with local labor in the province.
ENR magazine is a world leader in news and analysis in the engineering and civil construction sector, and its awards, in which this year more than 30 projects from 21 countries on 6 continents participated, are considered the Oscars of engineering, since they are awarded after an evaluation in which the risks, opportunities, and obstacles when designing and building, and the benefits for the local community are contemplated.
Pedro Pinheiro, director of OEC in Panama considers that: “In short, this award is a recognition of the work and commitment of each of the members who have been part of the development of this work, from its conceptualization to its delivery. Each contribution is important, and thanks to the great effort of the work teams we deliver projects that stand out locally and internationally and benefit thousands of Panamanians, my congratulations to all the members who made this great achievement possible”.
